World No Tobacco Day – 2021

On the 31 st May 2021 World No Tobacco Day was celebrated in the Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology, SDM College of Dental Sciences & Hospital, Sattur, Dharwad. At 9.45 a.m. which was graced by the presence of the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Shri Jeevandhar Kumar, our Beloved Principal, Dr. Balaram D Naik, Vice-Principal (Administration) Dr. Anand Tavargere, Vice-Principal (Academics) Dr. Lekha and all the Heads of the Department.

Dr. Kirty R Nandimath, Professor & Head & Dr. Venkatesh Naikmasur, Professor, Dept. of Oral Medicine & Radiology welcomed the guests with bouquets.

Posters regarding tobacco and its ill effects were displayed in the department and awareness was spread among the patients. The distinguished guests spoke about the importance of this day. In accordance with WHO theme of this year No Tobacco Day “ Commit to Quit”. E-poster competition was held for UG students which had very good response. Dr. Swati B Setty, Professor & Head, Department of Periodontics and Dr. Preetha Shetty, Professor & Head, Department of Community Dentistry were judges for the E-poster competition. The winners were announced and Prizes were distributed by the guests.

The guests appreciated the efforts of the Department in conducting the Webinars on Oral Cancer Day. Radio Talk by Dr.Vijayalaxmi Basavaraddi, Reader on All India Radio and KLE Dhwani and article published by Dr. Kruthika S Guttal, Professor in Samyukta Karnataka and Hosa Digantha on the occasion of No Tobacco Day.

As per UGC guidelines on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day 2021, Pledge was organized stating that He/she shall never smoke & consume any type of tobacco products in life and motivate the family or acquaintance to not to smoke & use any tobacco products, and shall keep the campus of the office tobacco free and shall also motivate my colleagues for the same.

Vote of thanks was given by Dr. Sneha S Hegde. Hence the event was concluded and followed by High Tea.
