Dharmaadhikari, Reformer, Educationist, Philosopher and Philanthropist, Dr. D.Veerendra Heggade is a multidimensional individual. Years of path-breaking contribution to social, economical and cultural development of the society, is what truly defines his unyielding service to the nation. From having converted small towns into modern educational hubs, redefined the very role of a temple from being a place of worship to a place of service, revived ancient sciences to further enhance modern lifestyles, and most importantly, having shown that one individual has the power to fuel and ignite the status quo condition of a nation. This is exactly why in 2015, Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade was awarded the second highest award a civilian can receive in India, the Padma Vibhushan.
As the President of SDM Educational Society ,He has established over 50 institutions and has been quite instrumental in uplifting the educational standards throughout Karnataka.

The vision that saw the founding of the SDM institutions has always been clear – enlistment of society through education. But maintaining this clarity of vision even as it is translated into reality is no easy task given the diversity and spread of these institutions. The Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Education Society has however proved equal to the task. The committee that charts the destiny of SDM institutions under the Presidenstship of Shri Veerendra Heggade, operates from a modest building of Ujire.
About Dharmasthala
Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala, the land of righteousness and piety, is one of south India’s most renowned religious landmarks with a history as old as 800 years. Manjunatheshwara, the chief deity of the spiritual abode, has taken the form of a shivalinga and made immaculate, the temple town of Dharmasthala since and forever. Lord Manjunatheshwara, is being worshipped in a very unusual yet exceptionally inordinate manner in Shree kshetra dharmasthala, as this Shaiva temple is beseeched by Vaishnava priests and administered by Jain descendants.
