The Department of Periodontology celebrated Oral Hygiene Day on 1st August 2025 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. G. B. Shankwalkar, a pioneer in the field of Periodontology. A series of awareness activities were conducted throughout July for students and the general public.

The celebrations began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries and faculty. Dr. Anand Tavargeri and Dr. Lekha P., Vice Principals, SDM College of Dental Sciences and Hospital, Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University, graced the event as chief guests. Postgraduate student Dr. Prakruthi, who served as the emcee, shared an overview of the various initiatives conducted by the department. A creative reel made by the house surgeons highlighting these activities was also showcased.

The program featured the presentation of awards and certificates to the judges and winners of the competitions held for Oral Hygiene Day. The dignitaries and faculty distributed oral care kits to patients visiting the department. A special question booth, “Let’s Talk Teeth”, designed by the house surgeons, enabled patients to seek guidance on oral health queries.

Adding to the spirit of the occasion, a rangoli reflecting the theme of Oral Hygiene Day was displayed within the college premises.
