The Oral hygiene day was celebrated at SDM College of Dental Science and Hospital by department of Periodontics on 2^nd August 2021. The ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Honorable Dr. Rajan Deshpande a well known paediatrician of North Karnataka, Principal Dr. Balram Naik, Head of the Department  Dr. Swati Setty, and Vice Principal Dr. Anand Tavargeri. Dr. Swati Setty welcomed the gathering. The Principal congratulated the department for organizing novel activities during the ongoing Covid 19 crisis.

Chief Guest, Dr. Rajan Deshpande emphasised on the importance of Oral Health and its effects on the general health. The primary objective of this programme was to educate and create awareness about the importance of oral health. Bearing this in mind the department of Periodontics undertook relevant programmes to promote oral hygiene awareness.Oral hygiene kits were distributed to the patients on this day. Patient educational videos were also displayed on this occasion which were uploaded on YouTube under SDM University channel.This year a radio talk was given by Dr.Pragathi Bhat, Faculty of the department on “Oral Health Awareness” in SDM Arogya Samvadha programme telecasted by Akashvani Dharwad, and the same by Dr. Jyotsna Madhurkar in KLE Dhwani. An article on “Bayiya Arogya” by Dr.Kaveri G.S. was published in “MANJUVANI” a monthly magazine released by Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala  Prize distribution for Video-blogging, Poem writing, E-poster and Quiz competitions was done. A webinar on “Treasures of Dentistry in Ayurveda” was conducted  so as to highlight the importance of Ayurveda in dentistry. The faculties of all the departments and students also participated in the event. The Oral Hygiene Day was thus concluded by delivering a vote of thanks by Dr. Monika Goswamy, Professor in the department.
