The Department of Prosthodontics successfully conducted its first digital dentistry course titled “Essentials of Digital Dentistry – Scan, Design & Print” on 13th & 14th August 2025. This comprehensive two-day certificate program was specially designed for interns, postgraduates, and faculty members.

The course aimed to strengthen participants’ understanding of how digital technology is transforming dentistry, with a strong emphasis on practical applications, case-based lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on sessions. A total of 49 participants attended the program.

The event commenced with a formal inauguration, featuring a welcome address by Dr. Gouri V. Anehosur, Professor & Course Coordinator, followed by an address from Dr. Balaram Naik, Principal, who highlighted the significance of digital dentistry.

• Demonstration on Scanning, Designing, and 3D Printing of crowns by Dr. Gouri V. Anehosur

• Hands-on Scanning of Dental Casts moderated by Dr. Vani Niranjan

• 3D Printing, Trimming, and Fitting of Crowns by Dr. G. Chandrashekhar

• Virtual Tour of Digital Smile Designing by Dr. Shrinidhi Poonja

• Session on Digital Forensic Odontology by Dr. Ashith Acharya

• Digital Dental Photography & Clinical Integration by Dr. Harikesh

The program created awareness on the use of high-quality digital equipment, its impact on daily clinical practice, and the vast range of software applications—from surgical guide design to clear aligner fabrication.

This pioneering initiative marked a significant step forward in embracing technology-driven dentistry at SDM.
