Dr. Ashith B. Acharya Among the World’s Top 100 Forensic Scientists Once Again

Dr. Ashith B. Acharya, Professor and Head of Forensic Odontology at SDM College of Dental Sciences & Hospital (SDMCDSH), Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University, Dharwad, has once again been recognized among the global top 2% of highly cited forensic researchers. The prestigious list was released on 19 September 2025 by scientists at Stanford University, USA, in collaboration with the international publisher Elsevier.

For yet another year, Dr. Acharya has secured a position within the top 100 globally, ranking 82nd out of 15,009 forensic researchers worldwide. Remarkably, he is one of only 15 forensic experts from India and one of just 16 researchers globally specialising in forensic dentistry to earn this distinction.

A dedicated faculty member at SDMCDSH for nearly two decades, Dr. Acharya has significantly contributed to the advancement of forensic odontology, establishing a strong academic and research legacy at both national and international levels.

About the Global Top 2% Researcher List

Since 2019, Stanford University has annually published a list of the world’s most-cited scientists across multiple disciplines, based on publication metrics from SCOPUS, a publicly accessible database. The list includes leading researchers from diverse fields such as Medicine, Astronomy, Engineering, and Legal & Forensic Sciences.

Dr. Acharya has been consistently featured for six consecutive years under the “Legal and Forensic Medicine” category, which encompasses forensic medicine, forensic anthropology, forensic odontology, and fingerprint analysis. Of approximately 15,000 forensic researchers worldwide, only around 300 have earned a place within the top 2%.
