On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day and World Environment Day, the Departments of Oral Medicine and Radiology and Public Health Dentistry of SDM College of Dental Sciences & Hospital conducted an Oral Screening and Tobacco Awareness Camp on 5th June 2025 at Government High School, Kusugal, Hubballi. The camp was organized in association with PC Jabin Science College and the Indian Cancer Society.

The dental team included:

• Dr. Hema T S – Associate Professor, Dept. of Public Health Dentistry

• Dr. Vijaylaxmi Madalli – Professor, Dept. of Oral Medicine & Radiology

• Postgraduate students and house surgeons from both departments

As part of the awareness initiative, Dr. Hema T S delivered a health talk on the “Ill-effects of Tobacco”, sensitizing students to the health hazards associated with tobacco use.

A total of 107 individuals were screened, and those requiring further care were referred to SDMCDSH through referral cards.

To commemorate World Environment Day, the dental and organizing teams jointly planted a sapling within the school premises, promoting the message of health and sustainability.

This dual observance highlighted SDMCDSH’s commitment to public health, environmental responsibility, and community engagement.
