A two-day workshop on Basics of Biostatistics and SPSS was successfully conducted on March 6th and 7th, 2025 at SDM College of Dental Sciences and Hospital, Dharwad. The workshop was jointly organized by the Department of Public Health Dentistry, SDM College of Dental Sciences and Hospital, and the Central Research Laboratory, SDM College of Medical Sciences, under the coordination of the Research Directorate, SDM University.

A total of 38 delegates participated in the workshop, including PhD scholars and faculty members from various sister institutions of SDM University, as well as delegates from Karnataka University, Dharwad, and IIT Dharwad.

The inaugural session featured Dr. Chindendra M. Shettar, Registrar of SDM University, as the Chief Guest, and Dr. Anand Tavargeri, Vice Principal (Administration), SDM College of Dental Sciences, who presided over the function.

The workshop sessions were delivered by esteemed faculty from the Department of Public Health Dentistry, including Dr. Ravi Shirahatti and Dr. Zeba Afroz Shaikh. A special oration was presented by Dr. K. Satyamoorthy, Research Director, SDM University.

The program provided comprehensive insights into the foundational principles of biostatistics, supplemented by hands-on training in SPSS software. Through practical examples and interactive discussions, participants were able to grasp complex statistical concepts with ease. The hands-on component was particularly appreciated, as it helped participants understand the real-world application of biostatistics in research.

This workshop exemplified SDM University’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and research competency across its institutions.
