Every October, orthodontists and dentists around the globe come together to celebrate Orthodontic Awareness Week, aimed at raising awareness about orthodontic health and sharing tips for both kids and adults. This year, the Department of Orthodontics at SDM Dental College held week-long celebrations from 1st to 8th October 2024, marking National Orthodontic Week with exciting events and activities!

Here’s a look at the highlights:

📻 1st October 2024 – Radio Talk
Dr. Shashikumar B., Associate Professor, delivered a radio talk on “Malocclusion” in the Radio Doctor Program. The show created awareness about orthodontic issues among the general public, featuring a live Q&A with listeners.

💬 3rd October 2024 – Tooth and Nail – Debate Competition
Students fiercely debated ‘Braces vs Veneers,’ under the supervision of Dr. Yasodipta S. and judged by Dr. Roseline and Dr. Ashith Acharya. Congratulations to winners Dr. Ishita & Dr. Deeksha (interns)!

😊 4th October 2024 – Smile Contest

Participants from across SDM College showcased their radiant smiles in a friendly competition that brought out the best grins! 😁 This exciting event was supervised by Dr. Anusha Hegde, Assistant Professor, and judged by Dr. Roopak Naik and Harshavardhan Kidiyoor.

🛠️ 5th October 2024 – Wire Wizardry – Creative Wire Bending
This creative event saw enthusiastic participation, supervised by Dr. Apurba Gupta. Judges Dr. Shrinivas and Dr. Shashikumar awarded Dr. Charitha K.N. (PG student) as the winner and Dr. Prerana Jeer (intern) as runner-up.

🎭 7th October 2024 – Skit Performance
Postgraduate students and interns presented an engaging skit at the college entrance, raising awareness about the importance of consulting orthodontic specialists. The event was guided by Dr. Shrinivas M. Basavaraddi and concluded with an address by Dr. Balaram Naik, Head of the Institution.

💻 8th October 2024 – Webinar
The celebrations ended with a webinar on “Preserving the Limits of the Dentition through the Use of Directional Forces in Tweed Merrifield Edgewise Technique” by Dr. Neal Kedia, Professor at Buddha Dental College, Patna, supervised by Dr. Anupama V..
