The Department of Library, SDM College of Dental Sciences and Hospital, organized National Librarian’s Day on 12th August 2025, commemorating the 133rd Birth Anniversary of Padma Shri Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, widely regarded as the Father of Library Science in India. Dr. Ranganathan was a visionary librarian, mathematician, and scholar whose pioneering contributions transformed the field of library science.

The program commenced with a welcome address by Mr. K. Shivalingayya (Librarian), followed by the presence of distinguished guests including Dr. Balaram Naik (Principal), Dr. Anand Tavarageri, Dr. Lekha K, Dr. Kruthika Guttal, Dr. Kiran Kumar (Library Committee), and Mr. Rudragouda (Sr. Office Manager).

Dr. Balaram Naik, Principal and guest speaker, highlighted the importance of reading and emphasized reimagining libraries as vibrant hubs for learning, discovery, and collaboration in the age of artificial intelligence. Faculty and students pledged their commitment to this vision.

The celebration, attended by around 70 participants, blended tradition and innovation. It began with lamp lighting and a tribute to Dr. Ranganathan, and concluded with a shared vision of libraries as vital, evolving institutions shaping the future of society.
