Every year on April 24th, National IAOMR Day is celebrated to commemorate the Indian Academy of Oral Medicine and Radiology, established in 1985. The academy aims to elevate the standards of teaching and practice in Oral Medicine, Oral Diagnosis, Maxillofacial Radiology, and Imaging Sciences, while promoting Continuing Education, Research, and Community Service to both rural and urban populations. The theme for this year was “Revolutionising Smiles: Innovate, Illuminate, Radiate.”

 

Programs Conducted by the Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology, SDM College of Dental Sciences & Hospital, Dharwad:

1. Oral Health Screening Camps

Two camps were organized to mark National IAOMR Day:

• Location: Spoorthi Dhama, an old age centre.
• Activities: Donation of blankets, bedsheets, medicines, mouthwashes, sweets, and fruits to the residents.
• Team: Dr. Kirty Nandimath (Prof & Head), Dr. Veena Pujari (Assistant Prof), along with postgraduates and interns.

 

2. Essay Writing Competition

An essay writing competition was held on the topic “Role of Oral Physician in Future Dentistry” for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Three best essays were awarded prizes.

 

3. Webinar

A webinar titled “Oral Medicine; What Next, Neuromuscular Dentistry?” was conducted by Dr. Tatu Joy, MDS PhD, an alumnus of the department. The webinar saw participation from more than 150 attendees.
