We take immense pleasure and pride in informing you that department of Prosthodontics, SDM
College of Dental Sciences, Dharwad, in collaboration with King’s College London will be conducting “Msc in Maxilofiacial Prosthetic Rehabilitation” Commencing from Jan 2011.
The programme provides opportunities for students to develop and demonstrate extended
knowledge, understanding and advanced skills in the treatment of patients requiring prosthetic facial
rehabilitation. The course will cover a broad range of treatments for replacement of missing hard and
soft tissues using both traditional and advanced digital technologies. The course will also include a
specific module on the psychological and social support required in facial rehabilitation and will cover
communication, counselling skills and an appreciation of the psychosocial effects of surgical treatment
for those living with head and neck cancer and facial disfigurement.
The course has been designed to provide theory, support and discussion groups by online training using dedicated virtual learning environment. This innovative programme offers 6 modules that can be
studied at your own pace over 3 years through part time distance learning training to obtain 180 credits
at level 7 for an MSc degree from King’s College London. Partial completion or early exit may result in the award of a Diploma.

Overall objectives, similar to those for MClinDent (Fixed & Removable Prosthodontics) but adapted
to include topics relevant to Primary Dental Care. In summary:
10,000 words, submitted bound and on CD/DVD
Literature Review, Audit or Research topic
Final project report should be of publishable quality
Each student has a personal supervisor
Project report is marked by two independent examiners, including moderating by an External Examiner |
